Column : Netbook could be future of Indie Game?

I'm not sure Netbook will be future of Indie Game.
But at least, Netbook could be big part of that.

Recently I purchased a Netbook, SAMSUNG N120. I needed some portable computer, but Notebook is too expensive & big, and MID is too small. Netbook fits my needs almost perfect.

If you don't know what Netbook is, here is short explanation.
Netbook is similar to Notebook, but cheaper / lighter-weight / lower-specs.
Could be compared as PS2 vs PSP? Maybe.

Anyway Netbook is still Computer, using Windows XP (not Windows Mobile), so could run almost every programs which are for Desktop & Notebooks. Just can't run higher-spec programs. And of course, GAMES, too.

Netbook has 1.6 Ghz CPU, so could enjoy lower-specs games & some older games from GOG. But it doesn't mean I could play all lower-specs games without any problem.

For example, [Blackwell Convergence] had an error, when I first played. I searched folder & ran AGS setup, and finally played until the end. It's due to Graphic module, maybe. And for [Bionic Heart], it ran 'Windows Mode' & I can't find menu below. Ironically, 'Windows Mode' was bigger than 'Fullscreen' for my Netbook. So I struggled to find & click 'Option' button below, changed to 'Fullscreen' & enjoyed.

These are not serious problems, and some experienced gamer could find the solution. But what if I'm not so experienced? Gave up, and will never return.

Netbook could be new market for Indie Games, and it will not add some hard work as porting. And Netbook doesn't have DVD-ROM drive, so Digital Distribution could have better position. But as I told you above, you must care about something like that. Some problems could happen, which we didn't expect at Desktop / Notebook. Nothing is so easy. :)
